A day in the life

The campus of Tsinghua University is located in northwest Beijing, in the Haidian district which was designated for universities and other academic institutes.  It is also located on the former site of the Qing Dynasty royal gardens and retains Chinese-style landscaping as well as some traditional buildings, but many of its buildings are also in the Western-style, reflecting the American influence in its history.  Tsinghua University is known throughout China for having one of the most beautiful campuses.

The campus of Tsinghua University is almost a town in itself.  It is full of restaurants, cafeterias, stores and markets. Dining halls offering a variety of Chinese food are within walking distance from both the dormitories and the classrooms. Stores are conveniently located around campus, which provide for every aspect of a student’s life.

The four levels of proficiency are the Introductory and Beginner Level, the Intermediate Level, the Intermediate-Advanced Level, and the Advanced Level.   For beginner and intermediate level, classes start at 8AM and finishes at 12PM.  For advance Chinese classes, some of them have it in the afternoon.  After class, you also usually have lunch with your friends from class and study with your tutor or language partner.

The Mandarin courses include speaking, listening, comprehensive Chinese, extensive and intensive reading, newspaper reading, grammar, classical Chinese, Chinese culture, Chinese affairs and writing.

Sports facilities in Tsinghua include basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer pitches, tennis courts, running tracks, baseball diamonds, badminton courts, and an indoor swimming pool.
