Michael T. Interview
Hello! Can you please state your name and current occupation?
My name is Michael Ting I am a Law School student at the University of San Diego.
Why did you want to go to China, now?
I think it’s important to study Chinese right now because China is growing and from a business perspective, I think it’s really important for Americans to learn Chinese so we can understand another part of the world where business is growing rapidly.
Why did you want to study Chinese now?
Growing up my parents always spoke Chinese to me and for some reason I never fully grasped the language. I thought coming to Beijing would be the best way to learn Mandarin and speak to my parents in their native language.
How did you begin your search to find study abroad immersion program and how did you hear about/discover NSC?
I’ve always wanted to study abroad. I was looking at going Europe but really I’ve always wanted to go to mainland China. This summer was my opportunity to do something I’ve always dreamed of doing. I began my search for the most suitable program and came across NSC, which was one of the most suitable programs I came across.
Why did you Choose NSC?
I picked NSC because they were quick to respond to my emails and the number one reason was because they had the program I wanted. My plan was to come to China as soon as possible at the beginning of the summer and leave at the end of the summer because I had to begin school. Their program really fit my timeline.
What do you think of our website?
The NSC website is very professional.
What were your goals in choosing the program you selected with NSC?
My goals were to learn the language and also to learn about the culture of China. I really wanted to improve my speaking, my reading and writing, I picked the one-on-one tutoring because it’s very personal.
What have you gained during your stay in China?
Coming to China I’ve met new friends, tasted new foods and was able to learn the Chinese language. I’ve also found a new respect for my family’s country.
How did you feel about NSC’s accommodations?
Everything was conveniently done for me. I was given translation books, a local cell phone and health insurance to name few. I was given everything you would need to live in China for two months. NSC made me feel like I was in my home away from home.
How do you feel about NSC’s service?
From day one, I felt welcome. I traveled alone and didn’t know anyone in the city. When I arrived at the airport my program advisor, Amy, greeted me with a big smile. It was comforting to know that in a city where I knew no one, NSC was there to check up on me to make sure I was doing alright.
Did the Next Stp China program and service meet or exceed your expectations ?
My expectations were exceeded. When I signed up for NSC I didn’t expect I would make friends who would make this an incredible experience.
Would you recommend the program?
I would recommend NSC to all my friends and family.
