Luc Pokorn Testimonial

Hi! Can you please state your name and current occupation?

Luc Pokorn, undergraduate student.

When you performed your search what was the most important attribute you were seeking in a program?

I wanted to learn Mandarin as efficiently as possible, so flexibility in teaching methods and schedule was a key point that I was looking for.

Was the staff helpful in answering all of your questions in a timely manner?

Yes. I could always pop into the Next Step China office after tutoring to ask any questions I had or disturb the staff with a conversation about anything, they were pleasant to be around with, all of the time.

Why did you choose Next Step China?

My Dad and I thought it was the best option for me for a number of reasons. It’s convenient, close to the possible schools, gym and Wudaokou, which is a nice hot spot for young students, foreign and Chinese alike. Great place to meet people. Also, it’s comfortable in terms of housing, with working AC which comes in pretty handy during the hot, humid summer! It was my first time travelling by myself so these things made a difference.

How did you feel about NSC’s accommodations?

Very satisfied! Large desk space which is good for learning. Bigger than my actual room back home. Nice bed with plenty of storage to put your stuff in (books, magazines, phone, whatever you like). That was actually more helpful than I could’ve expected.

How do you feel about NSC’s service?

Generally very pleased. The staff was always kind, especially Qiong. In the beginning of your stay, a staff helps you get around if you need to. For instance, I wasn’t sure where the bank was, and Qiong offered me help by taking me there before my morning class. It’s also nice to have a cleaning lady come once a week to polish up the apartment. Water gallons were provided within minutes after running out.

Was there a time where NSC’s service impressed you? If so, please say the story.

I was very impressed with the tutoring. I have to say that’s one of the things I will miss the most. Absolutely personalized, flexible, and diverse teaching styles which is all conducive to better learning. On two occasions I checked out different places with my tutor to change things up a little bit. I went to the silk market to practice my bargaining and be complimented by all the beautiful Chinese vendors (a fun perk of going to the market!), and I also went to tea city to check out all the tea houses and eat at a local food joint. Very nice vibe.

Did NSC meet or exceed your expectations?

All in all, NSC met my expectations and I’m glad I got initiated to China through them.

Would you recommend NSC and our programs?

Definitely. I think it’s a great option for young people who are going travelling alone for the first time. It provides that comfy little safety net that goes a long way at times!
