China is a relatively safe country. The crime rates are very low compared to most other countries. It is, however, important to be careful and use some common sense regarding your own safety when teaching in China, just as it would be when teaching in any other foreign country. You should, of course, always obey the authorities in China.
Your best policy for remaining safe while in China is to listen to and follow the advice of the people who live there. Additionally, you should avoid going to unfamiliar places by yourself, at least until you have acclimated yourself to the country.
