Medical Insurance
Most foreign nationals teaching in China receive at least basic health care as part of their compensation. It is always wise to take out travel insurance as well, as this is generally quite reasonably priced and will cover any hospitalization not covered by your basic healthcare coverage. Assuming you receive health care as part of your compensation, you can generally expect the health care benefit to cover about 80% of any given medical expense.
If you already have major medical coverage, you will want to verify that your insurance will cover you while you are in China. Some insurance policies do, but others do not, and this is not something you want to discover once you’re already overseas. You should, of course make sure that you are fully aware of what portion of your healthcare expenses will be covered, regardless of your type of insurance coverage.
