Derek Capo, Chief Executive Officer
Derek Capo is originally from Miami, Florida USA. He received his Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance at Florida International University. Previously, Derek worked at Smith Barney and at Everest Capital, a $3 billion multi-strategy hedge fund, as a stock and bond analyst. He also owns and operates his own investment management corporation, Capo Capital Management.
Derek is fluent in English, Spanish and conversational Mandarin. He has resided in Beijing, China for the past three years. He likes to teach participants how to successfully bargain in China – it’s his specialty. |

Amethyst (Amy) Wytiu, Chief Operations Officer
Amy is originally from the Philippines and received her Bachelor’s of Business Administration at De LaSalle University Manila with a concentration in Marketing Management and her Master’s at Ateneo de Manila in Public Management. Amy also worked for the United Nations, the Mexican Embassy, a World Trade Organization subsidiary and also founded a tropical flower distribution business.
Amy is fluent in English, Mandarin, Tagalog (Philippine dialect), Spanish and Fukien (Chinese Dialect). She has resided in Beijing for the past three years and considers Beijing to be her second home. She enjoys meeting new people. |

Zhang Jiajing, Program Associate
Zhang Jiajing is originally from Harbin but has resided in Beijing for more than 6 years. In 2007, she received her Bachelor’s degree at Beijing Language and Culture University with a concentration in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Since graduation Jiajing has professionally tutored students from all over the world. Her love of teaching Mandarin and Chinese culture is what makes her one of Next Step China’s most effective tutors.
Jiajing likes to travel and talk about interesting topics with her students. She also likes organizing activities such as Next Step China’s infamous Dumpling Making Dinner. Jiajing is fluent in English and Mandarin. |

Jia (Joan) Qiong, Associate
Jia Qiong is originally from Anqing, China. She received her Bachelor of Tourism Management degree at Zhuhai College of Jilin University. Qiong previously worked for the Walt Disney World Corporation in Orlando, Florida USA and and volunteered at Father Ray Foundation in Pattaya ,Thailand.
Qiong loves to travel and enjoys the feeling of being “on the road” and making new friends from all over the world. Qiong is fluent in Mandarin, English and Anhui dialect, she is also familiar with Cantonese. Her cooking is also very good. |

Li (Jane) Li Qingjing, Tutor
Jane is originally from Hubei province and graduated at Hubei’s Television and Radio University. Jane is one of Next Step China’s most experienced tutors. She has been teaching Chinese for more than 15 years. Since 2004 she has dedicated herself to teaching foreigners given her gift to adapt to the demands of students of all ages and proficiency levels. She has taught classes of 30 or more students and private lessons with high level international executives and diplomatic ambassadors. Jane prides herself in her ability to work on strengths and weaknesses of a student using a patient but professional approach.
Jane hopes to not only help students improve their language skills, but also to share the charms of China with them. She loves to spend time with her family, swimming and cook. |

Li Hui, Tutor
Li Hui is originally from Shenyang located in the northeast of China but currently lives in Beijing. She studied finance at Shenyang Technical University and earned a certification of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Beijing Language and Culture University. She is excellent in teaching business oriented topics as well as traditional Chinese customs. LiHui always puts a lot of effort to push students to improve their Chinese.
She enjoys teaching students who ask a lot of questions and she also enjoys meeting people with different backgrounds. Her goal is to help every student speak like a native and be fluent in Chinese. |

Xu Ran, Tutor
Xu Ran is originally from Beijing but studied in Russia and has experience teaching Chinese to foreigners for more than 3 years. She received her certification of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Beijing Language and Culture University. She is excellent in teaching intermediate spoken Chinese, Chinese reading and Chinese writing. She is proficient in Chinese, English and Russian.
As a teacher, Xu Ran takes pride in understanding the importance of learning a foreign language and the difficulties encountered when learning a second language. She is always eager to teach students who are very motivated in learning Chinese. |
