Here are some key points that you have to know before enrolling your child to learn Chinese university.

Learning a new language especially Mandarin could be challenging but rewarding. According to some foreigners who have learned and loved the Mandarin language, it is not totally difficult. Mandarin does not have noun classes or conjugations compared to the English language.

Mandarin has full of tonal intonations and characters that only few foreign speakers can master. It is very challenging to learn Mandarin on your own especially by small children or teenagers. Advantages of University:

• There will be a support system provided to you and your child. If your child will be staying in China with minimum of six months up to one year, your child will be able to receive assistance in processing the different documents. The required traveling documents will be provided by the university before coming to China.
• Almost all universities offer dormitories. This means the place is very conducive to learning. Students do not have to worry in coming home late or going to class early. Universities also give advices on the process of the dormitory system.
• The universities also give assistance in getting health examinations and residency permits.
• Studying Chinese language in a university will give your child more opportunities to practice speaking the language because of the large size of the class. There will be more chances of learning the language and culture of China because there are other students in the university that your child can interact with.

Disadvantages of University:

• The language programs of universities are usually in big class sizes which is around 20 students per class. This means fewer opportunities to participate in the class and less attention are provided to each student.
• The materials and books used are usually from the university presses. Some materials are outdated that need revisions. There are books that discuss flowers, love or stories of random topics that are not useful in everyday conversations.
• The Chinese classes in the universities are quite expensive than private institutions.

Remember, that your decision will also be based on your child’s learning habits and personality. You need to keep in mind as well that you need to give your full support to your child while learning the Chinese language.

There might be motivated and dedicated foreigners who want to speak the Chinese language who learned on their own. However, the best choice is to learn Chinese university. This is to give your child a learning package that will help him or her appreciate more the language and everything about China.
