The Benefits of a Chinese Summer Immersion Program Learning a second or third language can prove to be a difficult …
Next Step China makes sure that you make the most out of your internship experience by also providing you an opportunity to have one-on-one Chinese language lessons for 7.5 hours a week. Depending on your level, Chinese lessons can also be focused on the terms used in your industry.
While your goal is to build your career and your experience in China, the language program of Next Step China ensures you have the proper language competency to complete your learning experience in China. We do this by providing highly effective, interactive lesson plans so you can immerse yourself in the environment. In order to do this, our tutors use a personalized approach depending on the different language backgrounds and aptitudes of the participants.
Chinese language sessions are an average of 1.5 hours a day of intensive Chinese given that this program is for those who are focused on learning how to communicate in an environment using the Chinese language and learning more about the Chinese business culture. Given that you have an internship program that’s normally scheduled from 0900H to 1700H, the schedule for tutoring is very flexible.
The basic curriculum for this program includes:
1. Social occasions, greetings, introduction, apologies, and congratulations
2. Expressions used for travelling, using public transportation, telephone conversations, and making appointments
3. Expressions used for business activities such as giving briefs or presentations of a company product, getting or giving a quotation, commenting on the quality of a products and services
4. Consulting, negotiating, bargaining, writing or revising a plan, discussing a way for partnership and cooperation, making comments on problems, analyzing, and solving problems
5. Composing a business letter
6. Your industry’s specific terms
The adjustment of the curriculum will depend on your Chinese language assessment, needs, interest, and specialization. The tutor will still be focused on grammar, speaking, listening, and writing; making sure that strengths are further enhanced and weaknesses are given focus.
If the Chinese language level of the participant is advanced, tutors will be incorporating business contracts, periodicals, government policies, news releases, and advanced business writing.
Tutor Selection Process
In selecting our tutors, we make sure that they have extensive experience in teaching Chinese as a second language. They are also either graduates of education (major in teaching Chinese as a second language to foreigners) or are former Chinese teachers in prestigious universities such as Beijing Language and Culture University. Some of our tutors have also taught Chinese in other countries.
