Next Step China’s Intensive Tutoring Program is a specialized and highly successful program for those who need to learn and improve their Mandarin at a fast pace. Before you know it, with our highly successful intensive tutoring programs, you will soon be thinking in Chinese too! A few weeks in China studying with us ‘in situ’ is the equivalent to many months theory elsewhere. Tune in to local chatter, read the signs in local shops, and hear the dialect. Your brain is subconsciously learning 24/7 when you study in China with one of our residential courses.

The Intensive Tutoring Program is our most popular program for non-beginners to advanced students given its flexible structure. It is a unique and intensive Chinese language program created and offered only by Next Step China tutors. Our intensive one on one tutoring program consists of you studying 4 hours a day, split between morning and afternoon, with two different tutors 5 days a week. Sessions are held in the comforts of your accommodation and/or our offices. The duration of the program ranges from 2 weeks to 3 months and you decide the start date, we only require one month’s advance notice.

The program’s objective is to stimulate more interest in learning the Chinese language. Apart from using books from the University, Next Step China has created proprietary lesson plans to practice throughout the city, an exceptional experience offering total immersion in the language and culture of China. Our tutors use a personalized approach which is individually tailored to the different aptitudes, needs and language backgrounds of the participants. Our tutors have repeatedly discovered that the best speaker of the language may not be the best reader and the best reader is not necessarily the best writer. The program focuses on the individual strengths and weaknesses of each individual participant.

Course Format

The program strives to acknowledge and respect individual differences without making presumptions about the participant’s ability in areas other than second language acquisition. The program will focus on the individual strengths and weaknesses of the participants, providing a concentration on spoken Chinese. The tutors will integrate traditional classroom teaching methods with oral discussions about different subject matters in order to develop practical verbal skills on various topics whilst effectively applying the language in various practical ways.
