1. What should I bring to China? Back to the Top
Medicines. Although there are pharmacies and western medicine available in Beijing, we strongly recommend that you bring all your prescription medication (including medical records that support these medications) and your preferred over-the counter medications in quantities that will last for the duration of your stay.
Toiletries. If you prefer specific brands for items such as soaps, shampoos, deodorants or antiperspirants, lotions, and toothpastes, you will want to bring them with you. They can be difficult to find in China. Make sure to bring enough to last you for the duration of your stay.
Clothes. You will want to bring comfortable, conservative clothing. Keep in mind that clothing and shoes are also widely available and very inexpensive in China. However, larger sizes can be difficult to find.
2. Can I arrive earlier than my scheduled arrival date? Back to the Top
Yes, this is possible. Please inform Next Step China of your arrival date. However, please note that we may charge US$20 per day beyond the allotted days of accommodations. The fee would cover the rent, utilities, and insurance.
3. Are vaccinations needed? Back to the Top
Yes, but they are not required. We advise all applicants to consult with their doctor and get vaccinations before leaving for China. We recommend that you check the following vaccinations:

Depending on the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your country, applicants may come in person or through a third party to apply for a Chinese Visa. Fees for your visas can also vary from one country to another. You can refer to the website of the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your country.
6. What are the baggage limitations? Back to the Top
Each airline has different requirements and may change their policies without notice. Travelers should never assume that the aircraft on which they are flying will have sufficient storage space onboard.
International flights generally have the same size and weight allowances but may cut down on the number of pieces that can be checked in. The usual allowance for check-in baggage is as follows:
7. Is travel insurance provided? Back to the Top
Yes, travel insurance is provided. Please look at our information about our insurance policy in the “Getting Started/Insurance” section.
8. Is Next Step China a legal company? Back to the Top
Next Step China is a legal corporation in the Unites States of America and China. We highly encourage you to conduct a thorough background check on any company you consider before you provide your full payment as there are a number of less than reputable, study abroad programs in China (sending money to Hong Kong is a warning sign).
Take caution in choosing a Chinese language immersion programs as some of them are not registered to conduct business in some areas. This can create problems for insurance claims and other security concerns. Upon your request, we can provide you with copies of documents proving the legality of our business.
