High school students who wish to improve their skills have two main options for courses in Mandarin Chinese. The first is a University Program that allows high school students to take courses in the celebrated Beijing Language and Culture University, studying for four hours per day. This classroom setting features 1 student to every 20 or fewer international students, so those studying can feel as though they are given the personal attention they need to excel in their quest to learn the language. If students in this program feel that they would benefit from more intensive one-on-one learning they are given the opportunity to add 1 to 2 hours of private instruction after class.

The other option for high school students seeking courses in Mandarin Chinese is the Teen China Immersion Program. This program allows for greater exploration of either Beijing or Shanghai for those that are interested not just in learning the language but also in learning more about the country and the culture of China. Students enrolled in this program will join a tutor for 7 hours of studying and touring of the city per day throughout the program.  Rather than learning in a structured university classroom setting, students can learn applicable skills as they explore and encounter their city of choice.

If you are not a high school student you have several other options for courses in Mandarin Chinese. The most customized option for those serious about learning the language is the Intensive Tutoring Program. This program can range from 2 weeks to 3 months, or even longer if you wish. With this option you have the freedom to choose your start date and will then study for four hours per day, with two different tutors, five days per week. Splitting your studying time between the morning and the afternoon of each day you can choose to either study in your comfortable accommodations or in the Next Step China offices.
