Derek Capo, Chief Executive Officer

Derek Capo is originally from Miami, Florida USA. He received his Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance at Florida International University. Previously, Derek worked at Smith Barney with a Vice President of Investments and at Everest Capital, a $3 billion multi-strategy hedge fund, as a stock and bond analyst. He also owns and operates his own investment management corporation, Capo Capital Management.

Derek is fluent in English, Spanish and conversational Mandarin. He has resided in Beijing, China for the past two years. He likes to teach participants how to successfully bargain in China, it is his specialty.

Amy Alonzo Wytiu, Chief Operations Officer

Amy is originally from the Philippines and received her Bachelor’s of Business Administration at De LaSalle University Manila with a concentration in Marketing Management and her Master’s at Ateneo de Manila in Public Management. Amy also worked for the United Nations, the Mexican Embassy, a World Trade Organization subsidiary and also founded a tropical flower distribution business.

Amy is fluent in English, Mandarin, Tagalog (Philippine dialect), Spanish and Fukien (Chinese Dialect). She has resided in Beijing, China for the past two years and considers Beijing to be her second home. She also looks forward to meeting new people

Zhang Jiajing, Program Associate

Zhang Jiajing is originally from Harbin, China but has resided in Beijing for more than 6 years. In 2007 she received her Bachelor’s degree at Beijing Language and Culture University with a concentration in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Since graduation Jiajing has professionally tutored students from all over the world. Her love for teaching Mandarin and Chinese culture is what makes her one of Next Step China’s most effective tutors.

Jiajing likes to travel and talk about interesting topics with her students. She also likes organizing activities such as Next Step China’s infamous Dumpling Making Dinner. Jiajing is fluent in English and Mandarin.
